Re: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 MSC R Lens

Hi Mark, I have been using other cameras mainly so posting elsewhere, although I have been pin-holing using MFT.

The lens is potentially for my son-in-law who is off to South America soon, and he wanted something with longer reach. But he's not really that interested in cameras, just the output. With that in mind, how would you rate the Plastic Fantastic 40-150 R in the real world?

I read a review by Robin Wong, and for a budget lens it seems to be not half bad: https://robinwong.blogspot.com/2015/...56-r-mini.html

Offers ?? D-i-W was asking £95 incl. RMSD for the lens described 'as new, boxed', and I trust him implicitly. I hate to do this, but have you got a figure in mind? (A reply by PM would be fine with me.)
Cheers, Steve

Mine is in good condition. I used it quite a lot before buying the PRO version. Very handy size, so pocketable. The IQ is reasonable, worth what you pay for it...…….PM'd

Thanks Dave, yes I received the PM saying withdrawn - I had not noticed it in the headlines.

Mark, sounds good. I have responded by PM. Basically I'm waiting for a decision from my son in law. But, he would be a mug not to...

Re: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 MSC R Lens

I always keep the 40 - 150 in my bag. It is so small and light that it would be silly not to.

Quality is not at all bad, although it isn't the fastest of glass. My only comment is that it doesn't seem that usable at the far end of the zoom range. There is a noticeable drop off in quality beyond about 120 mm, but I think it is just so light that even with my very steady hands camera shake becomes a problem. But in all other respects it is a delight to use so I am not selling mine!

I would really like the 40 - 150 Pro lens, but it is just too big and heavy for my purposes and I really wouldn't use it often enough to justify its existence.

Re: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 MSC R Lens

I think there must be a lot of variation between samples of this lens, as some people say they are not impressed by it. I bought one from a forum member and had some good results with it - this is wide open at full stretch:

Mark - MJ224 - what's your experience with the copy you have for sale? Is it more like Naughty Nigel, or closer to Bikie John['s] experience?

That is impressive John!

It does seem there is some variability in these lenses but I guess you get what you pay for. I am certainly very happy with mine up to about 120 mm. I will have to do some experimentation when I am not under pressure to get on with the job!

FWIW I've had mine since I got my first M43 camera.
I've very happy with it, good quality, super light and portable.

I've never noticed it being soft at 150mm and I don't have the steadiest hands.

I sort my images into Albums for each lens so you can see what else I've done with mine if you're interested.
