Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

Oly original ones have been hard to come by, but I think supplies are trickling through now. There are some off-brand ones available through eBay, there are some quite long threads about them on here.

Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

Correct, they don't charge in your original Olympus charger.
Many of the ebay ones have the option of coming with their own charger though. Mine seem to work fine in both camera and grip, though I bought them a while ago so there's probably no point in supplying you with a link.
Have a look at the various supplied chargers, some are fitted with USA style pins and come with a USA-Continental 2 pin adaptor; some others come with a figure of 8, just like your original charger.
Some of the after market batteries seem a bit of a tight fit in the grip, but all seem OK in the camera itself. They all seem to use the same cells inside, which are of lower capacity than the originals, despite what they claim in the adverts or on the labels.

Certainly worth trying for the price, but if you wanted four, I'd get a pair each from 2 suppliers to hedge your bets.

Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

There is a long thread about 3rd party batteries here: http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20546

This is under the E-M5 section, currently on page 6. There may well be more if you have the patience to scroll further down. I think the conclusion was that some of the 3rd party ones, that come with their own charger, worked well. But you'd better read all of it!

Ciao ... John

Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

Personally I'm not finding 2 batteries enough for a full day out on holiday. I guess I could conserve power a bit more and make them last better, but it would be a bit touch and go.

Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

The original batteries are around £60 each.
I, and many others here, use these from a uk supplier (they also sell via Amazon) and they are fine. http://www.exprodirect.com/product.p...at=7364&page=1

They also supply a suitable charger. http://www.exprodirect.com/product.p...at=8173&page=1
This has the advantage of an added in-car adapter. You can charge the original Olympus battery in this charger as well. The reason for this is that the latest Japanese safety regulations require a safety circuit in the charger which uses an extra connection on the battery.

Regards.

I have one Olympus battery and three ExPro,all used ever since I got the camera. All work exactly the same with no problems. I only use the ExPro charger for all my batteries and have put the Olympus charger back in the box.

Regards.

Re: Batteries for OMD EM5

Ex-Pro® Cell will meet the manufacturers original OEM specifications. Compatible with your camera, however must be charged with a 3rd Party Charger. Please note battery does not display power level.

not sure what it about but it says please note battery does not display power level

If you say they all works like the Original then I go ahead and buy some

Ah found it. I don't understand this statement unless it means that there is no power level display on the battery.
Just double checked mine and the battery level indicator shows on the camera exactly the same as with the Olympus battery.

Regards.
