A freshly minted Robin at Carlton Marshes on Sunday, already adopting the inquisitive pose so typical of these birds.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I was staying on Skokholm island last week and we had a significant rare migrant - a yellow rumped warbler. This got many twitchers very excited and a boat was organised for them to see the bird (normally no day visitors are allowed on Skokholm.

I'm not sure the image will appear but the Flickr link is above.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Given the weather on that side of the pond this is rather appropriate.

A film shot from Cheshire in the '80s. Our weather is more like April than the last week of June.

There are four forms of Yellow-rumped Warbler. The above photo is (or at least was) a male Myrtle Warbler. In the past regarded as a separate species from Audubon's Warbler. Both, along with two other forms are now all classified as Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Is it time for another rant about scientists reclassifying species?

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

A few garden birds taken this afternoon with the Zuiko 75-300 MKII. All the shots are at 300mm.

Thanks for looking

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

They look nice and sharp John

Plenty of light might be the major factor.

Did you by the lens new?

Hi Mark, yes I bought it new from John Lewis this week. It is the MKII version but apart from a lens coating I understand it is optically the same as the original. The shots were indeed with plenty of light and all at 300mm. I had a lot of keepers and quite a few rejects as well but thats nothing new for me and my shakey hands. Even the much improved Olympus IS struggles to correct that.

Regards,
John
