Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I checked the nest box in the evening and early morning for a couple of days after the young left in case any came back to roost in the box overnight. They never did and this may explain why, this is what I saw a day after the straggler left the box.

Herring Gull I THINK (maybe LBB, but I thought too big, maybe GBB)

My daughter (warden on S Walney nature reserve with it's important Gull Colony and foster mother of a now 1yr old Lesser Black Backed couldn't say, it's currently up in the UK Gull Group FB page where I've got one "Herring Gull, but not certain" response. These things must be hard to ID!

Herring Gull, maybe by John Dalrymple, on Flickr

Some Fieldfare fledglings, all siblings. They can hardly fly yet they will spread to find suitable perches out of reach from predators and waiting for the parents to feed them. Managed to get a shot of the parent providing food but got twigs in the way, so deleted.

Thanks,
We have them year round, highest count during the dark months as some will be wintering.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Icterine Warbler. Not the best of shots, a tad distant and steep angle however first time I've managed to get a clear view of one as this species arrives in late May when the foliage has developed to such extent that it poses a challenge, and usually keep out of sight - this guy was an exception. They stay only a short time before returning back to tropical Africa. The song includes a mimic of other warbler species. Made my day. I'm not sure you have this species in UK so sharing, thought some of you might be interested.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

From a pleasant day out last weekend with my camera club at the The English School of Falconry in Wilstead, Beds.
All E-M1ii with 40-150 Pro, except the Barnie which is with the 300 (and might have benefited from another click of aperture to crisp up the nearer wing).

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Here is another North American species, I don't think it's been posted in this thread before. A summer plumage Willet. Photographed on a slough in Saskatchewan in the mid '90s.

A freshly minted Robin at Carlton Marshes on Sunday, already adopting the inquisitive pose so typical of these birds.

E-M1 Mk II and 75-300 II.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I was staying on Skokholm island last week and we had a significant rare migrant - a yellow rumped warbler. This got many twitchers very excited and a boat was organised for them to see the bird (normally no day visitors are allowed on Skokholm.

I'm not sure the image will appear but the Flickr link is above.
