Yes, anything which helps build a profile of whom you're dealing with is useful, if not foolproof.

Trading online in this way unfortunately comes with an element of risk, much more so for the buyer than the seller. You have to weigh up the convenience and potential for a bargain against the possibility of making a loss. This forum has an excellent record of trouble free transactions that have benefitted a great many buyers and sellers but we should always be aware of the potential for things to go wrong with little or no recourse.
Thanks for the help. I have gone for the purchase. The seller seems very open and honest so no reason for concern.

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

Within this section, how does one change the For Sale header to Sold?

Probably I'm just being thick, but I can't spot a way...

The chances are the seller will be beyond the 24 hours time limit for editing the post, so they can't. I try to keep an eye on things, but sometimes I'm unaware that a transaction has been completed. In which case, just PM me.

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

Just wondering if there's an easy way to retire/archive an advert to allow a new advert to be reposted with additional items/prices and tidy up the thread ?

We tend not to close posts except in exceptional circumstances. Easiest is to simply start a new thread.

Thanks Stephen - just didn't want to confuse things (or break any rules) by possibly having multiple and possibly similar looking thread titles visible in the forum

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

Just put a post at the end of the first thread explaing what you're doing, and if necessary ask a Mod to mark the thread as sold.

Will do - sounds like a plan

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

Can I just remind forum members that this section is for personal "for sale and wanted" ads only. It is not intended as a place to promote third-party sales.

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

Is there a more appropriate forum to post "Good Deals" type things that members come across ? (assuming that's te sort of thing you are referring to of course)

Dealers Den for accredited UK Olympus dealers and non-grey imports. Otherswise, please remember that this site is sponsored by Olympus UK.

Hmmm.... I do get the "sponsored by" aspect but seems a bit off to not be able to point members at good offers from elsewhere - especially S/H dealers etc.

...and to play Devils Advocate using that logic should we even allow discuss Non Oly sales/trades/discussions ?

Re: Trading on the e-group forum

All I'm saying is use common sense and don't clog up the private sale and wanted ads with "recommendations". If in doubt, use the lounge.
