Re: Spiders doings

A classic shot ...and I think the mono conversion absolutely works here.

Re: Spiders doings

Thanks Brian. I was unsure about converting it to mono as there was some nice green lichen on the gate, but as the web was the primary object ...

Re: Spiders doings

A great composition there Stephen. Personally I prefer colour 9 times out of 10.

Re: Spiders doings

Thanks Mark. In general I would agree with you, but in this instance I felt that the very small amount of colour available - green algae - was more of a distraction than a benefit, so it went! But, as I've said before, each to their own. There's no right or wrong answer.

Re: Spiders doings

Thanks, Ed, Greg, and Birdboy. The gate itself is unspectacular but the latch is fascinating, with a Knob at 6 ft. high so it can be operated by a horseman.

Re: Spiders doings

Just saw your other post re this shot.

For me I think it's a nice shot and the mono treatment suits it very well.

It just needs to be rotated so the horizontal bar is, well, horizontal.

(Don't mind me please - it's an OCD thing I have )

Re: Spiders doings

nice one Stephen, the mono works for me and I like the little drops of dew.

If you are open to a suggestion, try cropping it down to the top crossbar of the gate, leaving the horizontal bar in. I think it makes an even stronger image (feel free to ignore this suggestion - of course )

Re: Spiders doings

Thanks, the two Brians! Bilbo, you're right about the level not being level. I should have seen that myself. Brian1208, a good suggestion but I kind of like the bokeh in the top right.

Thanks, Tom. It was just a quick grab shot with the 12-40.

I really like the strong graphic qualities of this this image. Black and white suits it very well too. Nice one Stephen.
