Video Capability ?

I am contemplating buying the M5 and to all intents and purposes, its photography performance appears excellent.

I haven't seen much talk about its video performance though.

Those of you that have the M5 and tried out its video recording, what do you think ?

Is it as good as a camcorder or the infamous Panasonic GH2 ?

Re: Video Capability ?

I think the E-M5 video capability is well above average and the new sensor doesn't suffer from rolling shutter 'wobble' syndrome nearly as much as many of its rivals. Whether it's as good as the GH2, which was designed specifically for video, is a matter for debate among video experts I understand the data rate for the GH2 is greater, which should mean better ultimate video quality.

Now that I have a computer on the way really capable of video editing (without growing old waiting for it to render) I am looking forward to doing a lot more video making.

Re: Video Capability ?

it's a good and detailed review. What I find particularly interesting is that so many people on Canon forums seem to be coming out and saying the E-M5 is actually better than most Canon cameras at stills and sizeable numbers are jumping ship. Panasonic have more status in the video field but many remember Olympus contribution to film cameras (I owned an OM10 for considerably longer than all my digital cameras put together). And Oly are still innovating. If they can get a few things like codecs sorted out, they could be major players in the video field as well

Re: Video Capability ?

It seems to be pretty good at video. Anyone have any experience of its ability to maintain focus on moving objects eg kids sports days or cars racing ?

Re: Video Capability ?

On the last point my experience is poor in c-af, it seems to flick back and forwards every now and then and this is noticeable on video

Overall though I'm happy with it, if I could just remember which way the focus wheel turns then I could try to move focus manually with a moving target
