Ian Hislop could bring a new reality to motoring, but he would be too busy, as I have already put his name forward to be PM!

Re: Top Gear ? New Presenters ?

How about Alexei Sayle and Janet Street-Porter? Plus someone like Nige Mansell for the serious driving?

Or...now let's be radical here - Omid Jalili? (Plus J S-P and NM, of course) If not NM, Rowan Atkinson. He could do a "Motoring by Mr Bean" slot! (In his Aston, of course...)

Omid Jalili. As I said two posts back. And Rowan Atkinson. These could be great fun without the OTT behaviour of Clarkson and co.

Agreed ! After all it is a somewhat "comedy" show

I guess we will not hear until next week the Beeb investigation and outcome

just maybe we shall get a few "drip feed ideas" from the red tops et al

If the redtops don't have quite a lot to pontificate about it, I'll be totally amazed.....! Incidentally, Rowan Atkinson is a good driver. Aston Martin owner, and I think he rallied it or something like that.

Re: Top Gear ? New Presenters ?

An Italian, any Italian?

Or, maybe, a retired Police Interceptor? (Alternatively, maybe as the Stig?)

Re: Top Gear ? New Presenters ?

How about a Turkish taxi driver?

That would soon weed out cars that are easily crashed or have bits that fall off!

William Hague will be available. His father does wing-walking for kicks, so it is in the blood.

Re: Top Gear ? New Presenters ?

There is quite a good article about a possible replacement for Clarkson here:

http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-ra...on-on-top-gear

I am sorry that it is the Guardian again (I am not a Guardian reader - honest) but I think it makes some good points. I think the final suggestion of Sabine Schmitz is inspired. She is a very feisty lady, with a sense of humour, and is a great driver. She is also already know to Top Gear viewers.

That's a nearly perfect qualification! In the motor industry, if you wanted to get on, the best way was to write a car off - and the more expensive the car, the better the chance of promotion. Or so it used to be said.

Re: Top Gear ? New Presenters ?

I reckon Omid Jalili could fit well with May and Hammond. (and I'm being serious here!)

Again seriously, I don't think the Beeb can afford to let Clarkson carry on without a severe penalty. He's cocked a snook at them too many times, got far too out of control; and his "sense of humour" has gone way past what is funny. He's no longer laddish but yobbish. And that means he's a bad ambassador for the Beeb and for the UK abroad. If another front man was brought in, Clarkson could be relegated to producing or directing the show - on much reduced income - with just a cameo slot to keep a sense of continuity. That way Hammond and May would find it hard to leave without destroying their own careers and indeed at very least seeming petulant and immature; and fans of Clarkson would still get something of a 'fix', so should be not too unhappy.

At the end of the day, no one person is bigger than the show or than the BBC. Both Clarkson and his fans who organised a petition to save him need to learn that, and learn it well. The alternative is chaos.

Thanks for that link Ron, best laugh I've had all week! The idea of Sabine Schmitz is a good one I think. I can't stand Chris Evans or Quentin Willson, if they bring either of them in I'll not be watching!
