May have found a cache of OM lenses

I keep reading threads on the use of legacy lenses on E-system cameras. I don't need to, but I am tempted to 'have a play'.

Please excuse my ignorance, but my Olympus experience started with the E-520. In my film days I didn't get any experience of the OM cameras and lenses.

I have just been made aware of a collection of OM equipment looking for good homes so I am tempted to have a look. Asking prices should be good (make him an offer), with money going to charity.

Because of the need to use manual focus, I suspect I would get most potential from a lens suitable for macro work. I already have the 50mm macro, so what would best complement this?

Can anyone offer advice on what I should look out for and rough values?

Also, would anyone else have an interest in this cache of equipment. I should have a list of what is available later today or tomorrow. I get 1st pick though.

Re: May have found a cache of OM lenses

Let me know what's available - I may be interested in increasing my small collection of legacy lenses!

Re: May have found a cache of OM lenses

I'm afraid that the Aladdin's Cave was not as well stocked as I had hoped, at least not with what I was looking for. I can't vouch for the condition of all the kit, not just lenses, as I only had a quick look, however much of it still had original packaging.

The lenses available may well not be what E-system users want, but for anyone still using OM film cameras there could be some bargains.

Lenses available as follows:

OM 28mm f3.5 Auto W (whatever that means). Looked in very good condition.
OM 75-150mm F4 (looked in very good condition)
Vivitar 90-230mm F4.5

Also:

Vivitar 283 flashgun (might need some work as I couldn't get it to work)
2 off Olympus dedicated flashguns T32, fully auto with OM2
Olympus Varimagni Right angled Viewfinder

And 1 OM2 body and 1 OM2N body.

Also a variety of filters and a flash synch lead.

Maybe some other small stuff as well.

Not being familiar with OM kit, I really can't give anymore detail.

The gentleman who is selling this gear is doing so as a friend (the previous owner) has died. The proceeds of any sales are going to a Hospice charity.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM and I will PM back the phone number.

If the OM1 and OM2 are decent, they could be worth having. My first 'decent' SLR was an OM1, which I bought in 1980. Lovely camera!

Re: May have found a cache of OM lenses

Hi

I still have my old Olympus 35mm stuff. Is there any way I could use the lenses on my E-500?

Advice greatly appreciated

Mike

Re: May have found a cache of OM lenses

Yep! Get an adapter from EBay for about a tenner and you are away. Manual focus of course and aperature priority.
MF is not too easy with the E-500 or any of the E series with small viewfinders but you can change the standard one for a third party one (fiddly though). The E-1, E-30 and E-3's are much better in this respect.
You may get on with it but you may not. It is certainly worth trying for a tenner or so. BTW, what OM lenses do you have?

Re: May have found a cache of OM lenses

Yes the adapter you need is called a OM to 4/3 adapter, lots of them on ebay, some with a AF confirm chip and others without, some people have had good luck with the AF confirm ones and others have not, I have two adapters neither have the AF confirm and for the most part focusing is a non issue using the E-30, with a E-500 might be a little more difficult due to the smaller view finder, a good tip on focusing is to open the lens up wide for the most light, focus and then stop down before taking a shot and this has worked quite well for me. I don't think the AF confirm is really worth it, and some have actually removed the chip after getting frustrated with it.
