Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I went to Blakeney yesterday and was very pleased that I was able to see an Avocet

Then I managed to catch two feeding together... even better!!

A little disappointed to see one fly off... but it was a photo opportunity!

Oh! Blooming heck there's hundreds of them!

You're quite right Walti. They're both redshank.
Great to see the avocets.

Some Brent Geese trying to make one of those old fashioned animation strips...

My birding book shows three sub species of Brent, Pale Bellied, Dark Bellied and Black Brant... it also says the Black Brant is quite unusual, so is this one? or just a darker than normal Dark Bellied? Pale bellied in the background?

Loving the EM1MkII and 300mm f4 combo. AF is brilliant - with the EM1 MkI I would have struggled to focus on the curlew rather than the grass stems. All of these were handheld:

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

The camouflage background for the Golden Plover makes the shots a bit special. The beetle on the Adder is a bit special as well.

They are incredibly well camouflaged - I didn't spot them until I was about 25 yards from them and they started to move away from me, and perhaps more remarkable was that my dog didn't see them either.

I agree.

The beetle is a carabid aka Ground Beetle, probably Amara aenea.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Went to grab a few bird shots today at Calke Abbey, nothing too exotic but the first ones I've taken that I thought were good enough for this thread. Critique welcome.
All taken with the EM1 mk2 and 40-150 f2.8 and 1.4TC. They are jpgs just cropped slightly and contrast tweaked a bit no sharpening applied.

Alf, it's now a Eurasian Magpie after being split from the North American Black-billed Magpie.
