Re: Introduction

Andrew,

Funnily enough, I switched from a K3 2 to an EM1 MK2 just over a year ago after handling one at the Photography Show at the NEC. Must say, it has revitalised me and my photography. I sold all of my Pentax gear. Great cameras but heavy when compared to Olympus. The Olympus menu system takes some getting used to but there is always plenty of help on this forum. Welcome!

Tim

Re: Introduction

Thank You. I was thinking about doing the same thing but haven't plucked up the courage yet as I still use my K3 11 for the occasional bit of Astrophotography. As I now have the time I would like to concentrate on Landscape and a bit of Wildlife photography. Regards Andrew

Re: Introduction

Welcome to the forum Andrew, congratulations on your Christmas present and retirement!
I too have been a Pentax owner in the past, a few years back now with a K20D and then a K7 and quite a few DA* lenses some of them very capable performers.
Very nice gear and great innovators but I think they've missed a trick by not getting more seriously into mirror-less with a front line product rather than the mishap that was the K-01 and the little Q series.

Re: Introduction

Hi Huw
Thank You I to started a long time ago with the Pentax ME Super then I went digital with the Samsung version of the K10D and the K20D. I then Bought the K3 11 all of which I still own. I thought about buying the K1 but realised that that all this gear was really heavy and I wasn`t really enjoying my photography as much as I used to. I wanted to try mirrorless but didn't think the expense of a Sony and lenses was warranted so I took the plunge and went for Olympus

Re: Introduction

Huw - Yes so right. Q was such a disappointment. Then of course they went FF, and had already hatched the (superb) 645.

Yes the 645 is a bit of a beast and a bargain for what it is / offers. The K1 looks a very nice 'D-SLR' too.
I just wonder if they'd grasped the mirrorless concept like Olympus and others have they might been better placed now with the building migration of D-SLR users away from the extra bulk, unnecessary pentaprisms, flappy mirrors and mechanisms

Re: Introduction

Hi Marlene
Thank You. I also found my Pentax gear heavy. After much deliberation I decided to move to MFT and bought the beautiful Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and 2 Pro lenses. With these lenses I have covered from 24mm to 300mm in full frame(and for the quality and build of these lenses a good bit cheaper than full frame)I know it sounds extravagant but I wanted to make a fresh start and I hope to enjoy my photography more now that I have the time to indulge in it and really learn what is possible with the help of the friendly and informative people on this site.
Regards Andrew

Huw - Couldn't agree more. Sort of frightening how DSLR sales have dropped away worldwide, of course not only because of MFT, but increasingly good phone products. Wonder if Pentax has suffered through it's several changes of owner? Mind you guess the Brand would not be here now if it had stayed where it was.
