Michal Cala's 'Silesia' photo exhibition in London

Of potential interest for those close enough to London to visit and enjoy this guy's amazing photography of life in Silesia, Poland. Based on the images in the following article, well worth a visit to see at first hand the silver gelatin prints.

Thanks Steve, love the urban stuff. I'm due a trip to That London so I'll add this to the itinerary.

It should be really worth it John, hope you enjoy. I'm aware Dr Mark pops in and out of London, he may be interested as well.

You know what, when I look at this guy's work, I feel I should melt down all my camera kit and make something useful out of the remains.

A stark vision, isn't it? Makes South Wales look like Utopia!

I'm not sure that I like his soot-and-whitewash style, but it suits the subject in this case. Very interesting. I know from a neighbour whose ex-wife is Polish that Poland was in a dreadful state even in the 1990s; you couldn't use public toilets at night, because locals stole the light bulbs! Several times a year she took food and clothing parcels for her relatives, just to help them survive.

Thanks for the link.

Re: Michal Cala's 'Silesia' photo exhibition in London

I went there today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The venue, MMX Gallery, is a small private gallery run by a very friendly couple Mark and Magda. I was the only visitor (it is a bit out of the mainstream) and we had a really good long chat about the photos, Poland, photography, what they are planning to do at the gallery and so on.

The only slight frustration was that it was not possible to buy the book as it is currently only available in Poland. However they are planning to get a bunch of copies sent over.

There is also a friendly black and white cat that seems to have adopted them as part-time staff.

Many thanks Steve for the recommendation, it was well worth the trip.
