Email

I am sitting in a hotel lobby trying to get my email from yahoo on my macbook air. No luck, not a good connection so cannot read my emails. My wife is sitting next to me with her Nexus tablet and able to get her emails, AOL. She is also able to get my yahoo email.
I wonder why I cannot get my mails on my expensive machine and her indoors can get hers, mine and yours as well on her cheapie machine. I can get on here, FB (slow) but not yahoo mail.
I suspect it is Yahoo that is the problem with my mac, anyone got an idea what might be the problem, or can recommend a decent email client?

Re: Email

My Yahoo email has been a bit erratic lately; I suspect it may have something to do with splitting BT from Yahoo. When logging on to my email sometimes I get the BT home page, sometimes Yahoo. Sometimes it seems unable to make up its mind and freezes, so I have to start again. I've also had to set up a separate Yahoo email account so I can continue to use Flickr.

I've stuck with BT as my Internet provider because they have been largely trouble free until recently and provide excellent support when things do go wrong. Now I'm thinking of shopping around.

Re: Email

Yahoo is the SKY e-mail provider, and my messages were all delayed for long periods. No "Status" notifications, no text message apologies, just poor service.

Re: Email

Flickr is also forcing registration with Yahoo soon - doesn't bode well for that either.

Re: Email

What DNS settings are you using?
I use
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
These are the Open DNS settings

I do not have any Proxies selected or any Bypass proxy settings.
Passive FTP Mode is checked.

I use have TCP/IP set to Using DHCP

This setting gives me access to most if not all WiFi networks I visit, some networks may be overloaded and slow.

Using the above settings I can get into Yahoo mail - not that I use the email address apart from Freegle communication.

I also use a program called WiFi Explorer to check out the signal strengths of the various networks.

Good luck

Re: Email

I use both Yahoo and GMX. Up to now, never had a problem with GMX.

With Yahoo, I've had more problems with hacked accounts - all from stateside - than Daft Mick.

Still keep Yahoo for the crap and the other for friends / website admins that I know.

The only problem I have with both of the above, is the soddin' adverts.

Hi Wally.
Tried GMX, worse than Yahoo where I am. Suspect that the wifi connection is rubbish.

I did look at the DNS settings but not knowing what they are or do, not sure I should mess with them.

Yes Derek, I can get on line but painfully slow for Yahoo and other email clients. This forum is good, not too slow at all.

Re: Email

If you can get the web OK then you are then depending on how busy the the connection is between you and the the place you want to get to.

On public WiFi networks I use WiFi Explorer to determine if it is worth persevering.

Finder will often show how many other machines are connected to the local network.
