Sorry to hear about the problems with your new camera. Hope everything gets sorted out to your complete satisfaction.

Re: Can EM5-II owners do me a favour please?

I have not been on the site for quite a few days due to a heavy workload which has also meant that I have not yet had the opportunity to give my 5mkII a 'real workout'. Personally I have not noticed the shutter-shock effects you are sadly having with yours, that is not to say it's not there on mine, I have just not come across it yet and hopefully it will not 'raise its head'. I have left the 'Anti-Shock' ON since purchasing the camera.

I do hope that you get a suitable resolution to the problem soon for I know you have an upcoming trip on which you want to take it. Also in fairness 'Oly' were not exactly 'fast out of the gates' despatching it to you.

Kindest regards, Simon

Re: Can EM5-II owners do me a favour please?

Quick update, so far Olympus have been very good an very understanding and are looking into stock levels to see if they can get me a replacement before my trip, can't ask for more than that. Fingers crossed.

I hope the replacement arrives quickly and resolves the obvious problem that you had with camera #1

More fingers crossed here - I hope the replacement arrives in time for your trip, and doesn't share the same problem.

Good luck ... John

Re: Can EM5-II owners do me a favour please?

But did you tried to use the electronical shutter, too see if you get the same result as with the mechanical shutter ?

When you use electronical shutter, there is no vibration at all. So if the mechanical shutter has in deed problems, you should get better pictures with the electronic shutter.

If the problem is somewhere else, both modes should give similar results.

The EM5-II has two types of electronic shutter mode. Anti shock mode in which the first curtain is electronic and the 2nd mechanical, and silent mode in which both are electronic. For me anti shock mode resolves the issue under normal shooting conditions, but not when using bracketing and AS continuous. Silent mode resolves the issue under all circumstances but it is not ideal for the type of shooting I want to do as I need to count off the bracketed shots when using remote shutter release and I rely on hearing the shutter for this, plus using electronic shutter for both curtains can introduce motion artefacts (as well as banding if you shoot in artificial light). So neither scenario is ideal.

I think between this thread and the mu-43 we've established that my camera has an issue, and is being exchanged.

Re: Can EM5-II owners do me a favour please?

Great news, my replacement arrived today and it appears to be fine. I have tested it from 1/60 to 1/320 (few jumps in between) and there's no hint of shutter shock, with and without anti-shock enabled. I don't know if it's in my head, but I"m sure the shutter actually sounds slightly different

Anyway, all appears fine (fingers crossed) so a pleasing outcome

Re: Can EM5-II owners do me a favour please?

That is very good news & efficient response for the replacement.
It possibly sounds different if there was a damping deficiency (or fault) in the first one.
