Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

I removed the cookie for the site in Firefox preferences as suggested. I then logged in again with my username and password and checked 'Remember Me?' A message appeared thanking me for logging in but I am not logged in. I have repeated the process several times with the same result.

Edit. If I go to the home page, at the top right User Name just says User Name, Password is blank, as is Remember Me? However it does appear that I might be logged in.

No ian. Immediately after receiving the Thank You For Logging On message, unless you then refresh the browser...... you are not logged on. Refreshing the browser is now necessary at every stage on the forum

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

Sometimes the log in seems to work after clicking on various posts or after 5 mins or so. The same applies to logging off. you are logged on until a browser refresh

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

OK, hopefully homing in on the problem. There is a known configuration issue exhibiting these symptoms with regard to the caching of http headers. The configuration of the server may be different to the old one, triggering this problem. I just need to know if I should change the setting in the forum admin or at the server, so I am waiting for advice from the host admins.

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

Ian,

My issues have returned, and I have re-booted, deleted cookies, re-started the browser and then attempted to sign in, the sign in screen seems to be mis-behaving asking you to sign in again, but once you go off to another page - you're signed in....

Refreshing the page manually is also required to see any updates to the post status and it's currently no where near reliable!

Sorry!

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

I'm having similar problems now Ian.

Whatever is happening is affecting log in for me.

If I log in I get the usual "Thank you for logging in now redirecting you" pop up. However if I go to a post that I have previously made the green "on line" button is not showing untill I do a "reload current page" on the browser (Firefox).

In order to make this post I had similar problems.
When I am logged in and click on the "reply" button I get the "You are not logged in, log in here " window and have to log in again and reload the page again to continue.

Regards.

On a positive note however....

It's blummin' quick now in comparison to the old server!

The CPU is twice as fast as the previous one

But I think the port speed and bandwidth in/out of the old server had also recently been upgraded. Uploading and downloading large files from my end used to be a headache but I hardly notice it now.

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

Walti, Ron and Peter, I've been saying all this for the last 4 hours but till now there was nobody else to support and confirm so I think Ian thought it was all down to my 70 yr old senility setting in

I was actually thinking the same at one stage !

Yup - John the Heating Man was quick to flag this up and I believe I know what the problem is. It's 99% a server misconfiguration.

The host admins have been fantastic in helping me this morning but I am pretty sure there has been a shift change and so there is a bit of a delay before the new staff get up to speed.

But in the meantime the forum and gallery do work, just with a few quirks

Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

Someone mentioned email notifications weren't working? Is that still an issue?

It was me. And yes I have not had any since last night. I did receive a PM though. No e-mail notification of the PM as there would normally be prior to this AM.
