Go for it. Less disruption in the end.

Re: The time has come...

Either move first or do both. No point in doing an OS upgrade first as you could destroy a working system. My thoughts buts its your call as you are at the sharp end and I have every faith that you will do your best. Thanks Ian.

Yes not a good idea to upgrade the OS without FIRST moving to the new platform, which in itself may have opportunities/threats as yet unknown. Again Good Luck and Thank You.

Re: The time has come...

I am just checking the fine details and expect to move to a new cloud server by mid next week. The CPU is twice as fast as our existing one and I'm told the port speed (the server access) will be faster too.

Part of the problem we have been living with has been restricted spare disk space and this is fully addressed by the new package.

That could possibly be due to Ian announcing he is not beginning his "Demolition Derby" till later in the week.

Have faith !

Re: The time has come...

The replacement server is now ready for the migration. I just need to know when it will take place and so I will able to warn you of any impending service interruption.

Re: The time has come...

Good stuff Ian, fingers crossed for a successful outcome.

Could you tell us in advance where you will post info on social media if it takes longer than expected please? Once the forum is offline we won't be able to refer to it here!

Thanks ... John

Re: The time has come...

The new server is running and I have been testing it with a snapshot of the site from a dat and a bit ago. We found a few issues but these are being fixed.

I will update this thread with more information in due course but there are no scheduled interruptios to be expected for at least 24 hours.
