Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

After the recent discussions about trained and captive wildlife in Tord's Tern sequence I took my four trained Double-crested Cormorants down to the bay for the sunrise. I told them to fly in formation and follow the line of the clouds on the north west side of the bay. As you can see they got confused and followed the line of clouds on the south east side of the bay.

Their formation flying could be tighter also, no supper for them tonight.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

This juvenile Little Owl remained safely tucked away deep inside a ruined building until the last light of the day. It was about the size of a small melon and rather distant so the results at 1/50 sec at ISO 6400 were never going to be good but it was so cute that I had to try. I think the chances of me going back for another go in better light at 6 o'clock in the morning are remote.

E-M1 II, 50-200 SWD and EC-14.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Thanks Tord. I added a couple more shots and turned it into a blog post. I may have to change the name of my blog if I keep posting ones that aren't grumpy or ranting.

Not 100% sure but it looks very similar to the juvenile Greenfinches I've been seeing... But I normally get a side view to help!

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Mallards at sunrise at 1/4 of a second at 7mm. That was as colourful as it got so I was shooting the clouds when I saw them swimming towards me and tilted the lens down.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

A photo depicting a Sea Eagle making its entry over the wetlands. Not visible are hundreds of gulls/crows and the occasional wader fleeing from the raptor. The dense flock following the Eagle at close distance are Starlings. They kept on like this for quite a while, eventually the Eagle vanished and landed out of my line of sight.

Wish light had been nicer and action taking place closer. This is more a record shot showing different approaches to survival strategies.
