Actuations

I have been looking at some deals on the net for the E-M1 used. Some of the dealer adverts post up, shutter count not available. One camera looks mint, but the shutter count says N/A. Does it matter?

Re: Actuations

They probably don't know or can't be bothered to find out.

To get at the shutter count is like swimming in treacle, not difficult but over complicated....

Would be good to know before spending hard earned cash................

Re: Actuations

It can do.
The problem with Oly bodies is the fact it doesn't write the shutter count to the exif data like most other cameras, so retailers just stick N/A

Bearing in mind the above comments, here is a link to inform on how to gain access to the shutter count as well as other aspects on the use and abuse the camera might have had. It includes the EM-1 which is where your current interest lies. https://www.apotelyt.com/photo-camer...-shutter-count

There's a guide here: http://www.biofos.com/cornucop/hidden.html

It's a bit convoluted but works.

The E-M1 MKii info looks like it needs updating as the descriptions don't 100% match up...

Thank you Mark, the retailer is well known to this site and the mint looking camera has 26,000 + actuations. I guess the retailer finally caught up with his tasks.

I have now bookmarked the compendium of lenses. Thanks for the link. Beats watching Wimbledon!

The camera has been used well, but would not think 26000 is excessive. Shows the camera is a good'un....If it had 1000, then someone did not like it. (Perverse logic...)

I had not thought of that. I am sure I read somewhere that the shutter is designed for 200,000. If so, 26000 is low

Re: Actuations

I recently traded in my E-M5 for an E-M1 at MPB. They don't list shutter counts but the first thing I did when I received my E-M1 was to check. Only 2k. I'm not sure why they don't list shutter counts as I'm pretty sure Wex do. Anyway, MPB were great to deal with.

Only 2K is great! Wex have a few cameras where the shutter count is not noted, Camera Jungle another. Thank you for your message. I have read positive reviews about Wex and mpb.

Re: Actuations

Yes I was pleased with that. The camera appears to be absolutely mint. The Olympus battery was dated 2016 so I wonder if that's an indication of when the body was also manufactured? I guess that would make sense.

Re: Actuations

I usually sell my gear on the forums but part exchanging with a company like MPB is tempting sometimes. Especially when they pay for delivery both ways. Also the six month warranty is not too bad.

Re: Actuations

Having part exchanged with Wex, and bought several bits of s/h equipment from both them and MPB, I'd say Wex were more reliably efficient and professional about the whole process.

I've never had the slightest issue with Wex selling or buying, while both items I most recently bought s/h from MPB were not exactly as described (both missing and extra bits in the boxes, although nothing major) and both were on the grubby side externally - they obviously don't clean their kit at all. Wex's have always been immaculate. One time, MPB sent me a Panasonic GH3 body instead of the 15mm lens I'd ordered??? Soon sorted, but still...

I'm sure both are reputable and I'm sure you'd be fine buying from either if anything went wrong.
