Coastal Taipan

The Coastal Taipan is Australia's most dangerous land snake.
Its venom is the third most deadly of all land snakes.
Many people have died after being bitten by it.

Shot through glass at Sydney Zoo (I'm not silly )

Re: Coastal Taipan

I was really, really hoping you had taken these with a 400mm lens plus x2 converter - until I read it was shot through glass at the zoo!

FYI, We have two species of taipans. The Inland taipan is the most venomous snake in the world.
According to Wikipedia it is estimated that one bite has enough lethality to kill at least 100 grown men.
The Coastal taipan is slightly less venomous but more aggressive, which makes it more dangerous.

The article is a fascinating read.

Re. zoos: Although I don't like seeing animals penned as they are in zoos,
I agree that there would be far more extinct animals without them.
My takeaway from Taronga is that all the animals appeared to be contented,
in good shape and well cared for, it was an enlightening experience.
