F15 Eagle - Cad West

I like this shot from Wally posted on 9th December 2010. It's a great sight to see this F-15 turning in at 9 G's and thus pulling some condensation of the wings and upper fusalage.

Re: F15 Eagle - Cad West

Thanks for the praise Andre, but you need to get out more.

I was literally sitting/squatting astride a fence and almost got blasted into eternity as it went past. It was indeed a day to remember as the USAF were being returned back home on rotation. This was their 'swan song' farewell and they really put on a show... almost 1 1/2 hours of screaming mayhem and I loved every minute.

Great shot glad to see others joining in on this thread / topic even though I think we are supposed to send them to an admin but I know I have been cutting out the middleman to get picture up in front of members to let them see just what others can do.

Re: F15 Eagle - Cad West

Brillant shot Wally!
I am just thinking about a trip north, to get a look at our very last F-4 Phantoms, when they bid their farwell on June 29th in Wittmund Air Base. I can't stand massed crowds, shuttle transfer and security checks etc. etc. - so I probably wont be at the air base per se. But I may set myself up in its close vicinity, to grab some last shots of this iconic plane. We'll see ... Falk

Hi There,

Great F15 shot a real stunner, just YouTubed Cad West and would love to take a trip there, awesome!!

Is that site accessible? Is it located in mid-wales? And are the flights restricted to certain times? I would love to take my little man to see them.

Cheers,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas.

Cad West (near Cader Idris) is a location on the Machynlleth Loop RAF Low Flying Area (LFA7) in wales.

This link: http://www.lowflymedia.com/info/mach...ach_loop.shtml
will tell you all you need to know including a link to the RAF schedule for flying.

There is another similar LFA in the Lake District which is nearer to you.

Regards.

A definite Wow shot well done Wally. That's one of the most dramatic air shots I've seen on here. Thanks for revising this buddha01.

Re: F15 Eagle - Cad West

Great picture! Not 9G's, not with all that stuff on the wings. One of two things would happen at 9 G's, you would see three pieces in the pic going seperarte directions, or there would be one extremely upset crew chief at Lakenheath!

Hi! and welcome again. Hope this post will provide you with some answers?

That photo was taken in Wales which has some very, very good plane spotting locations - Cad West being just one - all within a few miles of each other. You'll meet a great bunch of toggers all willing to help out with tips etc.

The following link will provide an introduction to Low Level training routes.

Try this link to get started. Plenty of info and other links which are well worth looking into for additional viewing for locations and how to get there.

For a variety of close knit locations, each offering completely different vantage points then the Wales locations are probably the dog's doodahs.

I based myself over a week at Dolgelau. The plane spotting locations, Cad West, Cad East, The Bwlch etc., are 10 - 15 minutes away by car - with good parking = a bonus. Just be prepared to go mountain climbing which might take on an additional - for me 30 minutes or so.

Take plenty of fluids / grub as it really is a complete day's outing. The locations are wide open to the elements and the weather can be very unpredictable. Would advise a 'pop-up' tent just in case. I was lucky and was offered a share by other toggers.

The Welsh Mach Loop is located within LFA7LF and probably offers the biggest variety of aircraft - also used by foreign Air Forces / linked photo's will offer that proof.

Finally, like everything else in life, nothing is guaranteed.
