Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Large Redeye Damselfly Erythromma najas Female

This year is 20 years after this species was first recorded in the UK. I did find a male:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/to...4357/#13592547

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/to...4930/#13597180

I found a female last year but got only one usable image of it:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1551240/

I had quite a struggle to identify the female. The males, when immature (teneral), can also be yellow but they lack the antehumeral yellow stripes on the dorsal side (anterior) of the thorax.

This encounter gave me a selection of images and a (crosseye) stereo pair.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/80 or 1/50 at f10 ISO 800, hand-held.

Harold

Thanks for that Harold a tough thing to spot it initially I thought it looked like a grass seed. It didn't look right so I took some shots then I could see it was an invertebrate.

It's the Oshiro 60mm with extras and the STF-8 on an EM1 mk 1. It's cheap and the build quality is poor, but the result is OK.

Alf,

I've done on or two the other way round: got a lovely set of what turned out to be a bit of detritus or plant exudate.
