Aww, that's a shame, he was very good for getting a realistic view on new releases.

I wonder what brand he is moving to?

Yep, and in his post there are a lot of clues that he is moving to work with/for a different brand.

Was/is a big Olympus advocate in Malaysia. Wrote some superb equipment reviews but from the perspective of an olympus employee. I hope he sticks with Oly and gives us more gear reviews.

Re: Robin Wong has left Olympus

Reading how his time got sucked-up by the company, I think I recognise the same syndrome in some Olympus UK employees (e.g. Claire)!

Yes, he was an avid blogger and private reviewer of Olympus equipment long before he joined Olympus. I guess they made him an offer he couldn't refuse hoping to use his experience and visibilty to their advantage.

Lets hope he does well in his new job.

Re: Robin Wong has left Olympus

Hmmm.... Wondering if one of the medium format players has sucked him in, as happened with Ming Thein*. That's the problem with being a successful photo blogger. There's always someone with bigger/better** toys to tempt you with .

* Who still has good things to say about Olympus, on the odd occasion he mentions them. Like Robin, he's quite young and very much living his dream.

** And I'll be disappointed if at least one of you doesn't dispute the better.

This quote from Robin's blog post specifically says he is not joining another brand.

"Olympus will always have a special place in my heart. I am still currently using Olympus as my main gear for shooting. Leaving Olympus was not an easy decision but surely the right one for me, to further grow myself in photography without restrictions of being tied to a camera brand, and focus more on my own shooting."

This suggests to me that he is turning "pro", setting up a review site or maybe a training service or something similar.

Regards.

It doesn't really say specifically that he won't join another brand. And it hints that his allegiance to Olympus gear may be more in his "heart" rather than his gear bag, which will diversify.

Sounds like Olympus bureaucracy overworked him and drew him away from his passion, for actual photography.

I expect Panasonic would love to have him join their ranks ... what a coup that would be!
