Oly Master 2

Apologies in advance as I KNOW this has been answered before....BUT...after owning OLY's (digital) since April 07 and downloading the Master at that time I have just had ANOTHER attempt to get my head around it all.(attempt No 10ish)

I went into the garden with 510 set to RAW and SHQ and had a session then downloaded MASTER 2.
After a couple of attempts (me being thick) I managed to do a RAW conversion and save it in MASTER 2....Yippee....

Now the thing is how do I move it out of MASTER 2 so I can finish off in P/shop 7.
At the moment my images go into PICTURES in DOCUMENTS then straight to P/shop and I can get them on here via DOCS.

So how do I get them into PICS or DOCS.

Thanks
Keith

Re: Oly Master 2

Hi If you move or copy the images into another folder on your hard drive or in a folder on your desk top then it should work ok.

Re: Oly Master 2

Not sure I quite understand the problem, but....

When you save you should get a dialogue that looks like the central box in the picture below. If you click on the little folder icon (marked by the arrow) then you get a dialogue that looks like the box on the left, choose to save in whatever folder you want to use.

Does this help

Re: Oly Master 2

Thanks both.

NICK...I feel a fool now...(AGAIN).

I had another try and followed what you showed me and clicked to save in MY Pics.
I then went there looking for a single image but could not find one...Then I spotted a folder called OLY Master 2 and all my earlier attemps were there.
Had another go to really make sure and that is where they end up.
The system must have created it all by itself....spookey.

Thanks again.

Re: Oly Master 2

Oh NO.....

1 step forward and 10 back.

Returned to the Master 2 to have a go at processing some more and I think I have to save as a thing called TIFF.

BUT when I opened it up ALL the files were blank...both the Raw and SHQ and when I clicked on one this came up........have I managed to delete everything and where has it gone ?

Re: Oly Master 2

Oly Master can work in two ways

1) with albums, where it places everything in directories under Oly Master, creates an index (or several) and you access the pictures by going into the album.

2) with folders, where it picks up and places stuff in windows folders, and you control where things go/come from.

The second method is much easier to use if you also use other software. Because you tell it exactly what to do. The first has the risk that if you move a file then Master wont know - so you'll have broken indices.

I'd recommend folders, if you select the tab on the lhs of your picture you will be in folder view.

It's a choice on the 'save' dialogue whether you save as tiff or jpeg.

Re: Oly Master 2

Now that you have Oly Master 2 with a date line feature, why don't you now download Oly Viewer 2 that can do batch file adjustments etc (haven't tried that bit myself) & has better additional RAW adjustments in it too. You will need to have your camera serial number to download it (not just any pleb can have the privilege of using it if they don't own an Oly camera ).

Re: Oly Master 2

Hi I have tried out viewer 2, and I have noticed that it produces from raw sharper more detailed images than Photoshop.

I had all ways thought that photoshop softened Olympus images from raw, this acturally proved it, so it is worth a tried save as tiff then do final adjustment in photoshopoh and colours appear better more natureal too.

Re: Oly Master 2

Thanks...

It looks from above that they went into an Album.

That OLY VIEWER looks like something to check out once I can get somewhere with MASTER 2.

I still cannot get any pictures out of the files....it says " The linked file is missing".....see above page of Oly Master.

Thanks

Re: Oly Master 2

Well the 'linked file is missing' is because you have (perhaps inadvertently) moved the final jpg (or tiff). Album view will create an index and, if it works in the same way as earlier software, a thumbnail. The index ties these together with the album imposing the album organisation, so what you see is actually different to the way it is stored in windows.

If you work in folder view, importing your raw files into a folder (I call mine 'orf'), processing the images and placing the output into a 2'nd folder (say 'processed'), then you will have little difficulty in finding/managing your pictures.

If you choose to work in Album view then you are locking your images into the structure provided by Olympus and giving away the opportunity to easily use other editing/viewing software.

But if you are struggling with Master it might be best to learn Viewer 2 anyway. That is the current software and will be maintained

Re: Oly Master 2

Thanks NICK....

Does that mean that the files have gone forever and the outlined boxes folder needs deleting somehow.
Keith
p.s. just going to find the Viewer 2.

No, they'll just have been moved somewhere else. If you know the names you'll be able to search for them quite easily.

Re: Oly Master 2

As Paul says, unless you've deleted them the files should be findable with Windows search, the name is given on the error message. But if it's just a test than maybe it's not worth the bother.

You can download Viewer 2 from here
