Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

Talk about having a fancy toy! Have a look at this.

EDITED with youtube clip instead.

Would a serious photog actually use this?

That's a shame. I'll see if I can get it anywhere else (in the morning).

If there is a "Not Now" button to click on it will then let you see it (I just tried it on my iPad without being signed in).

Re: Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

Just because you can, does not always mean that you should. It will appeal to some that like a gimmick, but there's more to go wrong and I'd hate to think of the price.

Re: Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

Must use lots of batteries? Seems a good idea if it helps with getting the light right.

Re: Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

I'd like to think we could all decide whether and where to bounce the flash but it would be neat for fill in flash for the camera to shoot 2 photos with different flash intensities and uses a wheel/dial to merge them to preview the effect of adjusting the flash intensity to get the best flash and natural light balance before taking a final photo with your chosen setting.

Re: Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

Yes, this has to be a gimmick that a lot of that camera manufacturer's followers will buy, because it's true, "I just bought an expensive camera so now my photos will look as good as pro's stuff".

I look at that & although there might be some merit (more or less, maybe more less than more) in the concept, but it reminds me of their first attempt into mirrorless with the AF being embarrassingly slow. If this concept was useful, then it needs to be in something like a closed dome & with a very fast response so subjects are not cracking up watching the antics of this robotic flash doing its yoga exercises in front of them.

I've replaced the FB link to youtube instead.

Re: Is Olympus going to make a flash like this?

I can only imagine the kind of person that would have one and would use it without noticing the surface behind them was bright blue. But AWB, Auto everything else would take care of that...

At least the subjects of portraits would be smiling or laughing at the flash head so no need to say cheese!
