Menage a trois plus un

Back on the butterfly trail -

1. Four pals get together!

2. Small white

3. Skipper

We were lucky enough to happen upon a red admiral today but it insisted on spending most of its time either on the roadway or on not very photogenic gravel paths. The one time it did settle on foliage it was too high for a good shot but it made for a better composition.

4. Red Admiral on a fern

5. Red Admiral on stone pathway

All taken with E-30, 70-300mm lens.

Regards,
Ann1e

Really stunning shots Annie but "menage a trois et un" is an orgy! #2 is a Green-veined white. Well done!

Fabulous shots Ann1e, I particularly like the first one.

Re: Menage a trois plus un

Boo hoo I only managed to get a single pair in my pic...and not such a good species either.
Great to get a focus in all that undergrowth.
Like all the detail and the different colours they can show.

Keith

p.s. good job I didn't have a multiple love in..I don't do foreign.

#1 is not bad at all - last time I saw just ONE of them is at least 3yrs ago!
Red Admirals are always nice to look at, even though I could sell them for a few Cent per pound, so many do we have sometimes ...

Re: Menage a trois plus un

Hello Chevvyf1, David, Huw, Keith, Falk and Andy -

Thank you all once again for your kind comments - I was doing some online reading this afternooon about various nature sites in the south of England and it mentioned that marble whites were a rarity in Hertfordshire. Well, I know why now - they cohabit in foursomes!

Regards,
Ann1e
