First portraits

In anticipation of having to take some portraits at work next week (despite my protestations about not taking pictures of people and preferring to stand on windswept beaches at dusk, where people are absent), I bought a cheap LED panel off Amazon (one of these if you're interested) to provide a bit of lighting.

The only thing I know about lighting is that I know nothing about lighting, so I stuck the panel on an old tripod and cast about for a model - only one was forthcoming however...

He didn't object to me using an old OM 50mm, or sticking a tissue on the light as a diffuser.

Re: First portraits

Often wondered about these bits of kit. They do seem to have some advantages in that you are able to play about with the effects and the direction the light produces. Maybe ADMIN could widen out the Thread Title.

Re: First portraits

Love those shots.

Could be Mr. Burns Birthday portrait pictures.

A little swearing in this link - nothing too much

Looks wide enough on my screen.

Or did you mean something like "Would this be better posted in the Accessory talk (General accessories) forum"?

Re: First portraits

Might be better elsewhere - feel free to move it.

The panel seems pretty good for the money. I'm taking shots of actual people tomorrow, so I'll see how that goes. Definitely not an area of photography I'd normally gravitate toward, although I'm intrigued to see if I enjoy it and how the pictures come out.
