Length of video clip

Have just completed a gig 4K video session with the M1 Mk11. Sound was excellent, via a six channel mixer, with professional mikes. However an unexpected result was that files were spilt, usually but not always, at a length of 5mins 7secs. Is there a way of altering this, please? I have had to render the files to make a complete recording which takes hours, even on a fast PC.

Re: Length of video clip

Hi, I have no experience with the Mark 11, but have made over 50 films. I can understand how frustrating it must be for your clips to be allocated no more than 5 minutes and 7 seconds. I thought these cameras were limited to 29 minutes for video. I had this problem using a GoPro. It turned out to be caused by a corrupt data card. On using the camera again, a new card and re-format, sorted it out.

Re: Length of video clip

Mmmm it could be a corrupt data card but it is a ultra high speed card I specifically brought for the new camera. I will try an older, slower speed card.

Many thanks

Ian

Please keep us posted. If it's not the card, contact Olympus support for a solution/repair, if no one else steps up with a solution. As its a new camera, I would not expect it to behave in this way.

Re: Length of video clip

If any stills were taken during video takes it will split the files as it will stop the video to take the stills & start again, but it is a new file if starting again.

Re: Length of video clip

Have established that the maximum file size per clip is about 1.7gb which translates in 4K to 5mins and 7 secs. If you use a lower resolution then obviously the clip time will increase. I tried numerous cards with identical results.

This is a disadvantage when recording high quality sessions as the subsequent rendering (joining) of 9 clips took just under 4 hours on a very fast PC. This was disappointing as the conductor was waiting for the file
