Windows 10 Codec for ORf

Hi,

Please would someone let me know where to find a codec to download for the .ORF raw files for the E-M5 mkii. I can't view the thumbnails in Windows. (Not a major issue as I can see them in Lightroom.)

Cheers!

Ivor

Not sure if these will help... but might give a pointer to other lines of enquiry

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

Thanks for those, but they are not really what I am looking for. I am after the codec that will allow the me to preview the thumbnails in Windows Explorer. All I get at the moment is an icon.

I can view and process them in Lightroom.

The Windows camera codec pack (from one of those links) is a bit old and does not include the E-M5 ii; the mk i is there. I saw on the Canon site that they produce their own codecs.

I read somewhere earlier today that Microsoft maybe stopping producing codecs. It's hard to believe but, If true, it's a bad business move.

Cheers,

Cheers,
I think that's correct. Microsoft are not interested in photo processing I suspect because it dose not earn them any money.

My workaround for some time has been to use Olympus Viewer 3 to download files from my memory card to hard drive rather than using W10. I have W10 set up so that when I plug in a memory card it opens OV3 automatically. This enables you to see all the images and delete the obvious duds etc. I don't use OV3 for anything else. Once I have done any "weeding out" I then go straight to (in my case) DxO Optics Pro for processing.

Regards.

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

The Microsoft camera codec pack released for Windows 8 are built into Windows 10. W10 can read the ORF files from my E-PL5 but not those from my E-M10 Mki.
The codec pack hasn't been updated for years.

I believe there are 3rd party options you can buy but I honestly think this is something Olympus should address not Microsoft.

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

Thanks,

It's a pity that big businesses seem to consider their main purpose to be make money for their shareholders instead of offering a good service to their customers.

If Microsoft are not bothering, I hope Olympus can come up with the goods! I usually find they are ahead of the game with innovations, but Canon seem to have this sorted before Oly do.

Does it allow me to view the previews through the Windows Explorer? e.g. If I put a .orf file on my desktop, and look directly at my desktop - not opening another programme - will I see the preview or an icon?

What I want is the codec so I can see the preview just through Windows, like I can for my E-5 .orf files .

Cheers,

The short answer is no unfortunately.

That's what I thought.

I'm going to have to teach myself to code a codec!

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

This works in Win 7 but not sure whether it will in later windows versions. It shows E-M5, & both E-M1's.

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

You could always shoot RAW plus jpg. That way you get the viewable and unviewable image icons next to each other.

Re: Windows 10 Codec for ORf

I believe you can run versions of Windows XP / W7 on W10 using something called a Virtual Box? This link might give some insight https://www.howtogeek.com/228689/how...on-windows-10/

I found another aspect from this site very useful in getting a work-a-round to enable Flixster to work on the Kindlw Fire.
