14-42EZ outing

Taking the 14-42EZ out was a pleasure - its such an underrated lens for its portability and quality. Kit lenses are great.

EM10, 14-42EZ, 40-150R packed, add a couple of bottles of water and one of these...

nice work

That's a good lesson for the newbies and the experienced IMO. Too often we can be blinded be carrying too much gear and too many lenses or by dreaming if I had ......... .
We need to learn to use and concentrate on what we have at the time and it's impossible to get EVERY photo we might happen to see. After all; what are we going to do all these 100s or 1000s or; 1000s upon 1000s of photos we make for fun. Travelling light can often be so educational.

Re: 14-42EZ outing

Weight and size was my main concern. I probably saved half a kilo on the 12-40 that day and could stuff the whole setup easily in and out of my bag.

I could have packed it (took it in the car for other reasons) but already had in my mind to take the small lens, and sure I couldn't get the minuscule DOF I like to use, but adaption happens and like you have said Ian, its a lesson and a good bit of fun trying to capture something.

Re: 14-42EZ outing

I use my one on an E-P5 and it performs very well.

Re: 14-42EZ outing

I have just taken a chance on a 100% mint copy from the digital frontier on ebay. 134 + 12 postage to me here in France, it seems a good buy compared with new prices but only time will tell. It is not boxed which is a pity but includes caps, aparently split from a kit. I will keep my lumix 14-42 meantime, just to compare. Pictures suggest it is a very competent lens., regards, Gary.

Re: 14-42EZ outing

Keep us informed Gary, I'd be interested to get your opinion on the differences.

The site, if curiosity hasn't got the better of you or you had a look on Flickr at the geotagging, is Greenham Common. Cruise missile and nuclear bomb dump some years ago and was a big part of the CND. Since its demise and closure, the runway and most hard stands were broken up and turned into roads. There are a few relics on site, including the control tower. Many of these are decaying and nature has taken back...

There seemed an extensive water network underground which surfaces at a number of pumps and hydrants.

DO NOT "DRY RUN"; THIS PUMP by Alex Bennett, on Flickr

And the remnants of what I can only assume is a simulation area for crash landings and plane fires. Building in the background appears to be something related.

Re: 14-42EZ outing

I am looking forward to using the new lens. I agree with Ian's comments on making the best of what you have got, my Lumix 14-42 is a very good lens, however I have found that for me it performs at it's best at 25mm therefore I have been using it almost exclusively as a 25mm prime, that said if anyone has this lens, try using it exclusively between 18 and 35mm, you will be surprised at the consistent results. I am sure the vast majority of good photgraphers on this site will raise an eybrow but, it works for me. Apart from the size of the new Olympus I am hoping it will be strong across a wider optical range. Just a few thoughts based on my experiences. Bon Dimanche, Gary

Re: 14-42EZ outing

Interesting, I guess there is often a sweet spot with lenses and that kit lenses are perhaps a little more susceptible?

Last few from me - all from the water purification plant on site, very much going back to nature
