Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Must stop reading this thread. You're making me crave a MkII and 300 f/4. And I can't possibly justify them. (And maybe I need to improve technique to get the best out of what I have got first)

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

With the weather so dreich up here today I decided on a walk through my local reserve hoping for a red squirrel or two but they were elusive today. Still a few birds were kind enough to pose for a shot or two.

Robins always seem curious enough to come quite close.

The swans were the only ones on the water.

and the highlight for me was a woodpecker. I have never spotted one before.

Your 4/3 equipment has served you well George. Three super shots here, especially the Robin and Woodpecker.

Thanks Ron. I'll not be changing from the 4/3 any time soon either so gotta try and get the best out of it. :-)

Lovely, detailed \robin shots Dave. 420mm - I guess these were taken with the 300mm f4 plus 1.4x teleconverter?

Indeed. I see the fine image of a greater spotted woodpecker is taken with Oly 70-300. Surprised you're selling it. I guess it's more portable and of course better maximum focal length than 50-200, though maybe not as good IQ and not as wide aperture.

It just doesn't have the quality of the 50-200. I'd not let that one go and won't let the 70-300 go unless someone meets the asking price. I'd rather keep it and use now and again than let it go for a steal.

A watchful Grey Heron on the marshes at Strumpshaw Fen. The local moles have been busy.

Ron, lovely bird.

By coincidence that is the best of what I saw today as well. But as mine was shot with the C... so it is only on Flickr . But it was in lovely condition too.

And there was lots of mole action too. But no redpolls, yellowhammers, siskins. Just a few Bullfinches and Redwings. A poor year so far.

Lovely Heron shots on your Flickr page Peter. Your bird was considerably more energetic than mine.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Digging through my photos I came across these shots from last June of a Goldfinch on one of the feeders.
