Just downloaded www.spinysoft.co.uk/BirdGuides.html on the IPhone. Available for Android as well. Handy if in the field and you can't be certain what you are looking at...

No that's Mrs Walti's hand, the photo was taken with the 300 lens so I had to stand a little way away...

I would have tried it as I could see I could only get one in focus, but they were scurrying around too quickly!

There's also the North American Merlin bird ID app which now includes three bird packs for Europe.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

That looks more like a Spotted Flycatcher to me Mark. A very nice bird either way.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Ron, Thanks for the correction. Just looked up the lbj in Collins, and I agree with you. There was a less white throat around at the time but no photo alas.

Thanks..

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I was at Carlton Marshes this evening and as I was walking back to the car I noticed an Egret feeding by the reeds which looked bigger than the others I had seen. As I was looking at it, it suddenly took off and I noticed the yellow bill and realised that it was a Great White Egret. I scrabbled to get my camera out and managed to get a record shot before it departed. Unfortunately the light was pretty bad so it is not very impressive. However it is my first G W Egret in flight, so I am quite happy.

E-M1 II and 300mm f/4.
