Barn Owl in Evening Light

This Barn Owl flew past us in the evening sunshine at Titchwell last week.

EDIT. I have added a fourth shot of the owl after it had crossed the path in front of us and was flying over the marshes in the distance, towards the sun. I have resisted the urge to increase the contrast as I liked the slight dreamy quality. I am not sure whether it works or not?

E-M1 II, 300mm f/4 and MC-14.

Very nicely done Ron. Lovely creatures, never seen one in the wild myself.

Thanks Mark. I didn't realise you are from my part of the world. Where is your homeland?

Re: Barn Owl in Evening Light

Lovely, evocative images Ron. It is a delight to be suddenly in their presence and it passes so quickly. Good that you can now get images to remember and be proud of as well.

I sometimes think you lose a great deal when you swap contrast and clarity for emotion and atmosphere. I agree this is just the sort of image that needs to be left as is. It is lovely and is a super farewell shot.

I was out yesterday with kingfishers, a similar sense of delight and joy as barnies.

Re: Barn Owl in Evening Light

Many thanks for your feedback Peter. I have just been looking at your Kingfisher images. It seems you had a very productive day. Which adapter do you use with the Canon lens? It certainly seems to work extremely well, when it comes to capturing detail.

Thank you for looking Ron. It's a metabones and rather than go off topic here I'll put something in the communal bird thread.

I will return us to topic by saying the magic of these images for me is the light and colours. If only we could always shoot in that glorious golden light which gives those crisp rim lights and that marvellous glow to the sky. Magical.

Really good. I like the last one a lot for the added context.
