Road To The Isles

The stoates/IainMacD double act hit the road again yesterday. This time we ventured along uncharted territory for us, The Road To The Isles between Fort William and Mallaig.

With no clear plan in mind we stopped where the fancy took us - here are a few (actually quite a lot!) of the day from me:

1,2 and 3. Taken at Loch Eilt.

4,5, and 6. We moved to Loch Morar and found some derelict buildings and old abandoned farm equipment to try and make some thing of. Number 5 is included for Snaarman! A short walk further along we found a small pebble beach and were treated to some great light breaking through the cloud.

7, 8 and 9. We knew we wanted to be somewhere for the sunset, we just didn't know where. We initially headed towards Arisaig but continued a little further to Rhu Point where we saw a colourful sunset over the Isle of Eigg.

Hello Steve,
All great shots, hard to pick a favourite, maybe no.6 for the nearly monochrome effect.
Regards Jim.

Re: Road To The Isles

Nos 2 & 3 - what an idyllic spot and perfectly captured, too. Was it just good fortune that the boat was there, or do you and Iain tow it around on a trailer?

The last one really catches my eye, too. I just love the subtlety of the image, with the silky blue sea contrasting gently with the pastel pinks in the sky. A perfect example of how not to over-egg (or should that be "over-Eigg") a sunset.

Can't believe you would infer we manipulate the scene John (with the exception of a little 'gardening' perhaps).

'Over Eigg' is brilliant I have to admit all credit for the composition of this goes to Iain who had set up here while I was faffing around amongst the rocks.

Re: Road To The Isles

A beautiful set as always Steve.

Very difficult to pick a favourite when they are all this good but maybe 2 & 3 just have the edge.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Road To The Isles

Lovely images Steve and difficult to follow, but here goes.

I still can't believe you let me carry the boat from the car all by myself! I was that tired I couldn't manage any macho shots and took one with flowers in!

Crunch!

Here is one of the crepuscular rays at Loch Morar; there seems to be a colour cast from the filter and I have struggled to remove it. It seemed to get worse so I left the WB 'As Shot':

On to the sunset location, I'm not sure about the composition in the first, the second works a bit better (for me) and the third is definitely over-eigged , it is under-exposed to cope with the direct sun and there is some flare evident:

1st

2nd

3rd

Re: Road To The Isles

Glad to see that you didn't let Steve have it all his own way, Iain! I love the boat scene and the second of the sunset pictures.

Two nice sets to make me want to visit Scotland again. I should stop looking at the Scottish threads.

Which is a good reason to offer these as postcards. Looks like a great trip and excellent results!

David.

Re: Road To The Isles

Steve and Iain, I enjoyed every one of your images and seems to me that a half dozen from each of you would make a nice 2015 calendar to celebrate Scotland's independence maybe ... (if as an Aussie am I allowed to speculate! )

Re: Road To The Isles

Two for the price of one (thread)!
Both fantastic sets Steve and Iain.
If I had to chose one from each I'd go with number 6 from Steve and number 3 (Loch Morar) from Iain. Thanks for sharing.
