Legacy lens Users Club

I am possibly treading on dangerous ground here but I know many subscribers to this forum also post to Four Thirds User and often the posts are the same. In fact the duplication between the forums (fora to you Latinists) is very high.

However those strange beings like myself who enjoy using 'legacy lenses' don't really have a home.

The Olympus UK E-System User Group has the new "Converters, adpaters and extension tubes" board but the 4/3 and MFT community has changed since the introduction of MFT. I have gone from being an Olympus user employing a range of SLR lenses to a Panasonic user employing a wide range of SLR and Leica fit lenses. Plus a couple of Oly 4/3 lenses!

My first question - to which I think I know the answer - is why do we have two very similar forums. Wouldn't the 4/3 movement be stronger with one unified discussion group?

Secondly: if we must have two forums, could we please have a legacy lens sub section on one (must be Four Thirds User I suspect), that is not tied to any particular manufacturer of lenses or bodies?

I think that would be a very good idea, t-up It would be good (useful) to have a home for all the knowledge and information, as well as questions.

Good idea!
Perhaps an area on each forum but linked somehow?

Some of us also use other brands! Not only Oly and Panasonic but, I also use Sigma, and I've heard of people even using a Canon with old lenses.

If there are some who haven't found them already here are two useful sites for leagacy lens fans.

I am confused - which part of the dedicated "Legacy Lenses" section of the Lenses sub forum on FTU doesn't fit your needs?

So there is one! I missed it, maybe as I tend to look at the front page latest posting rather than the forum index.
It should have a higher profile!

But not all of us go there regularly and not everybody who is a member of this site is also a member of that one, so it would be nice to have a dedicated section for us here on this forum - for UK users.

Hi Mike,

Four Thirds User is - as its name implies - all things Four Thirds, and also addresses the world wide community.

The e-group's full name is the Olympus UK E-System User Group and was set up on the instigation of Olympus UK, as a vehicle for supporting Olympus E-System users... in the UK (and Ireland).

So there are no Panasonic-specific, or Sigma-specific, or general Four Thirds, boards here on the e-group, not that their discussion in relation to the E-System is not welcome - of course it its very much welcomed.

Legacy lenses are of direct relevance to E-System users, as well as general Four Thirds users. There is no problem that you are now a Panasonic Lumix user, as long as posts remain relevant to E-System users as well. As Panasonic users can, and do, use E-System lenses and accessories, I do see a big overlap.

The Four Thirds User site is a more natural fit, but you're still very welcome here on the e-group.

I hope that helps - please do let me know if you need any more clarification

Ian

Home is where the heart is... I too enjoy using the "Legacy Adapter" (mostly with the macro bellows) so I too must consider myself "strange" in that case. However I feel comfortably at home here on this forum, so I can only summise that there are sufficient equally strange members...

Look forward to seeing and reading about your use of "other" lenses.
