Re: First silhouette attempts

I like contre jour/backlit pictures like this and, when the light is in the right direction, enjoy taking them too. All too often I make a mess of it, so I wouldn't dream of offering any sensible technical advice.

I do think these pictures are worthy of comment/advice but it looks as if they've been drowned by new posts so I'll bring them to the top and hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will help a bit more.

In the meantime, here's my two-penn'orth.

There's a lovely contrast between the dark silhouette and the rich coloured sky.

I think it would be better if the first silhouette was nice and crisp rather than a bit fuzzy but, mainly because I do absolutely minimal editing, I'm not sure if there's anything you can do to recover it, but drawing back from this crop might be enough.

I think the sun's a bit too overpowering in the second one, but I'd guess it's just a case of timing. It's amazing how quickly that lump of fire moves, especially towards the end of the day.

Re: First silhouette attempts

I have to agree with Ellie that the first one is to soft at the edges as the focus is on the sky. Can it be cured, yes, but I would concentrate on the second one to fix.

The burnt out sun is to bright and distracting and also in the wrong place, but it can be fixed. It will depend on your level of skill in Elements 9.

I used Elements 9 to give the effect of the sun hidden behind his head (as it should have been), I also cropped it.

For your consideration.

Re: First silhouette attempts

My skill level is limited in Photoshop at the moment but I`ve had a look at some tutorials and I think I can pull this one off, again, thanks for the feedback,
