AI Gigapixel - Topaz

Topaz labs have launched this new AI based enlarging app.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=DiKY7oJwM5U

Just gave the free trial a go. No big deal. Its slow and PS does a good enough job for the times I need it.
Also 99 is a bit steep.

I have seen a few of these and they are all starting to have that "CGI" look.

It's a bit like watching an HD film on the telly and then the Adverts come on and the Image Quality of the adds make the HD Film look poor. Huge amounts of investment in IQ enhancements for Advertising Imagery, but it all looks "Larger than Life".

I agree. AI seems to be the new trend.

The performance of 'AI' is critically dependent on the training set used to set it up in the first place. So I do wonder whether this would help much for general images, unless, of course, there was the capability to define your own training sets (it seems not?) Even then, this is a science in itself, so casual attempts to teach a network generally fail spectacularly.

Re: AI Gigapixel - Topaz

AI is going to revolutionise our lives in general - it's being heralded as the next industrial revolution and just today there is a report suggesting that millions of people in the UK could lose their jobs because of AI.

I think it certainly will change how we work. Combined with robotics many manual jobs will be lost. Not only that though AI has reached a point where many professional jobs will change.

Lawyers for example AI learns from previous case histories and can advise best way forward.

Medical diagnosis AI certainly will help doctors.
AI controlled surgery using medical robots

Robots to care for the old - the Japanese are driving this big time.

Of course military applications ( One of the main funders of research). Look up Boston Dynamics on YouTube if you want to see where its at.

This whole area is only just beginning to dawn on our politicians, most of whom have no clue about science, and certainly have no idea how to handle this next industrial revolution.

Our kids face a changing world.

Re: AI Gigapixel - Topaz

A professional photographer/printer friend of mine just tried the eval version of this and thinks Photoshop's 'preserve detail' option is more effective - so he's not impressed!
