I'm back (for now)

Due to storm damage I, and many others round here, have been without phone and internet connection for 2 weeks. It's been like having your nose cut off! I'm still without phone, but my broadband has suddenly sprung to life. So what have I missed?

Re: I'm back (for now)

Well, not a lot really! (Welcome back though).
Oh, the winner of the winter competition has at last been announced. I came 2nd. Not sure if that's good or bad.
But my almost new 9-18mm from fleabay arrived yesterday ( 340 incl. postage), and i will be heading to scotland next week to try it out. I have posted asking advice on filters for this lens. As you are on your 2nd, what is your experience?- uv, polariser, have you tried nd grads in filter holder- vignetting, etc? (see post under accessories)

Re: I'm back (for now)

Don't hold your breath - the connection is still flaky and we still have no phone line.

I'm wary of using a pola on such a wide lens as it will result in uneveness of colour across the sky. I've not yet got round to trying a grad on it, but I used one on my 17-40 on a Canon 5D full-frame with no problems, so I can't see an issue. Just make sure you get a slim-line mount and/or cut off the outer filter slots.

Congrats on the comp - connection is not strong enough for me to look at the results yet! I'm having to do most things on my Iphone, but mobile reception is also iffy here.
