Me & My Shadow

I noticed this Harvestman in the mid-evening sunlight. I got just these two frames (uncropped) before it departed.

The stereo is crosseye.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/30 at f11, ISO 800, hand-held.

Damsel and Grass Stamens

I photograph a lot of damselflies resting on vegetation. This one (second image) looked a bit different. I realised that it was the added interest of the dangling grass stamens, the white anthers in particular. So a took another shot a bit more tightly framed (first image).

After some cropping, I now prefer the original shot (second image).

Olympus EM-1(aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/200 or 1/400 at f11, hand-held.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Sticking Together

Each year, we get these Cinnabar moth larvae on Ragwort, which we tolerate in our garden for their benefit.

This year, even when the food plants were mostly consumed, the female moths just kept laying eggs. We finally had to transfer the caterpillars to ragwort on local wasteland. These images show two groups crowded on bare tips of food plant stems, one vertical and one horizontal, when most of the leaves had been eaten. The final image (not very sharp) shows a group with one larva having just moulted.

The stereo is crosseye.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/40 or 1/50 at f8, hand-held.

Harold

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Grabbed this little fella with my 12-100 lens. Cropped slightly.

Closer crop, looks like the 12-100 has handled this pretty well.

Sorry about the yellow! perhaps I should have added a sunglasses needed warning .

Gasterupteron jaculator Searching for Host

This was on a dead willow stump which is inhabited by various fungi and insects. The characterstic white tip of the ovipositor is lost against white background but the species is unmistakable. It was photographed on 19 June.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11, hand-held.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Switched to the 40-150 +1.4tc for the last couple.
Here's a few more.

Plan to give the extension tubes a go with this lens if the sun comes out later.
