Re: Little black number with a red carnation...!

Henry, totally agree about RW. I was thinking about ‘Dopey Photographers Revue’ and several magazines. I’m now going to stand in the corner.

They don’t make them like that these days. Colemans that is.

Re: Little black number with a red carnation...!

Two interesting reviews here by the same guy - one of the Pen-F, the other of the Leica CL:

https://shotkit.com/leica-cl-review/

http://www.romeobravophoto.com/olymp...ew-retro-cool/

Seems he liked them both, but thinks the CL is "MUCH better" !

Dave - the 35/1.4 and the 23/2 lenses look fabulous. Better start saving!

Following this thread could prove very costly.

Can be easily solved. Just remember those review photos. Say you are too good a photographer to have anything to with cameras that produce those sort of photos.. Then you can thank those reviewers that they are such BAD photographers.

Thanks Paul, If I'd have gotten ONE good PEN-F then I would not have been in this position....It's an ill wind.

Leica, not to everybodys taste I know. It was a toss up between the CL and a Q and the CL won.

As far as extra lenses, WOW lots of .
The 18-56 that came with the camera is 1280 is bought separately.

I think it's going to have to be a Fotodiox M-TL adaptor and used M lenses, but there are enough good ones of those out there.

What the CL has done is give me a whole new interest, Leica's and the whole Leica ethos is different some how to other marques, idiosyncratic to say the least.
Even down to the strap rings, they don't use plastic covered triangular ones like others they use round split rings and bits of leather.

I've had to invest in a half case, the body being metal is vulnerable to damage by my wedding ring.

After 60 years of normal cameras, the CL is the beginning of a whole new learning process, and I'm looking forward to it.

What I'm loving at the moment is the CL's sheer simplicity and clean smooth lines, it's not festooned with a dial or button in every available space.
The front has one button for lens release.
The back, three buttons and a navigator.
The top, two dials, a shutter release, on/of and the most discrete display one could wish for, measuring just 14mm x 7mm.
It displays mode, exp comp, aperture or shutter speed....no overkill there then.

The lack of IS is also a re-learning curve, back to a minimum shutter speed of '1/focal-length' and all that nonsense.

It's a thing of beauty, it's by my arm as I type, such simplicity.

BTW....A thumb grip, that slots into the hot-shoe......150...Erm no, I haven't.

Re: Little black number with a red carnation...!

I have a tiny Leica C-LUX 2, which I bought just after it was discontinued for around the same price as the equivalent Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30! I was delighted to find that it came complete with a rather nice leather case, a copy of the, then current, Photoshop Elements and, of course, a red dot. It's nothing special but I still like using it, when I want something very compact that slips into a shirt pocket like an iPhone

The 24MP sensor is *very* good. Same sensor as my Fuji XF10, I believe. Leica’s JPEGs are not up to much, so most Leicaphiles tend to be raw shooters.

In terms of the lens... The zoom is excellent but not spectacular. Don’t expect something that beats the likes of the 12-40 and it’s various Panasonic competitors (probably approaching equal though). The Leica 35mm f1.4, OTOH is stunning (and they charge for it accordingly).

Money no object? Absolutely, I’d have one (then again, I’d have a lot of everything) so no criticism from me regarding the OP’s choices. Per others, yes please do show us some images once you get the hang of it.
