Re: The time has come...

Update - I am now planning to start work (and likely disruption) on Thursday (6th July) PM. I will provide details of a social media link where I will post updates if there is prolonged down time..

These days our dedicated server also hosts dpnow.com and fourthirds-user.com so they will also be disrupted.

Oh dear... and you quoted it as well... and its quite relevant

http://www.jabberwocky.com/carroll/walrus.html

"from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872"

Surely what we do as photographers is look through "looking glasses" and record what we "find" there

Andy

Re: The time has come...

I may criticise some aspects of the Forum, but I Salute you for donating your time and dedication. As most of us know, critical system updates usually take >x3+ times longer than you hope.
Good Luck

Hope all goes well hope to see you on the other side.

If we lose the gallery does that mean shots from it used in threads will disappear?

No, that shouldn't be a problem.

Isn't that what the captain of the Titanic said when he first heard reports of icebergs ahead?

Seriously, Ian, I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible. Good luck.

OK, no drama just yet - I am now discussing server upgrade options with my hosting company.

Re: The time has come...

Looks like we'll be moving to a new cloud server - faster, more disk capacity, and cheaper!

I just need to work out if the move should happen first or if we should do the OS changes first - or maybe do them all at the same time.

Go for it. Less disruption in the end.

Re: The time has come...

Either move first or do both. No point in doing an OS upgrade first as you could destroy a working system. My thoughts buts its your call as you are at the sharp end and I have every faith that you will do your best. Thanks Ian.
