Thanks Rob! The donation rate has, as you'd expect, slowed down now, but it's still going and I have some more thank you emails to write

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I know things are hard for everyone these days but I see this thread has had over 3600 views surely a few more can give £1 or so as it does add up and all will benefit as there are lots of tips and help given to everyone.

Just my thoughts

John
By coincidence, I have just popped back from visiting another Photography forum and was there reading a thread about subscriptions. I pay to it £10 per year for Premier membership. Apologies for being repetitive. I know of at least 2 members of this forum who are also members there. I don’t know them personally, only seen there names flash up on the site. The forum format used is different to the one here. Here is link to the format suppliers: http://xencentral.com

Getting back to this club, I am in support of your idea John, but would prefer an annual subscription and to make it optional, rather than a mandatory monthly sub. I would not want to buy in the idea that non paying members are divided into “them and us”, someone did mention that thought. My fear is that a monthly sub could scare off folks to less expensive sites, but what do I know

However, at the end of the day, Ian is the owner and what he does to it is down to him. Hopefully the club will survive and prosper.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

You have to be careful not to overthink this, two of the forums i use i subscribe to,i get subscribing member against my name on one and contributor on the other, after that it varies one has a chat box i can use the other allows PM ing, only small things but hey its only a few pounds a year.
I would not be interested in a have to subscribe situation, two-tier ime ok with.

As you already subscribe to both these forums mentioned, and I assume for a small annual fee, receive those benefits, why would you not do the same if it was Subscription Only?

Just curious

Regards,

John

Perhaps you misunderstood the the way I put it, i wouldnt pay to get the things i mentioned i was just saying they come with being a supporter.

I would not pay in a "you must pay situation" purley because of it being that way, if i can be a forum user and at some point decide i want to support it then thats different.

My 2 cents worth would be to have adverts on the site? as very site has them so would not even notice?

I'm quite happy to pay not to have ads on the site! We are bombarded with ads and other spam 24 hours a day from everywhere and they drive me nuts.

I use Adguard anyway, which seems to block adverts. So there is mileage in this suggestion. I wonder what the income from adverts would be...…...

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I use uBlock Origin which seems to be more effective than Adblock Plus which I used to use. The latter now has a paid-for "white list" which seems contrary to its primary purpose!

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I just wanted to let you know that I'm back in the Philippines at the moment because a family bereavement. I'm trying to keep an eye on things but it's less easy. I'll be back late on Wednesday.

Thank you again for the continuing fund donations. Thank-you emails will be written and sent at the end of the week.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Arrived back at Heathrow last night to the amazing news that we were 1-0 up against Croatia, alas it was not to be of course.

But there is always something to look forward to and I have received a Loupedeck Plus to review (mixing desk-style controller for Lightroom adjustments)

http://dpnow.com/lightroom-loupedeck-gets-plus-update/

Does anyone here use a Loupedeck?

Ian (surprisingly not (yet) feeling jet-lagged).

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I've moved the off-topic Loupedeck posts to their own thread here:

Please continue that discussion there rather than here, thanks!

Once again, thank you!
