Sunny Sandpipers

It was a bright and sunny day yesterday, so I decided to brave the cold and take my camera out for the first time this year. It was good to find that some Purple Sandpipers had returned to the same spot that they do every winter and I was able to take a few shots of them feeding in the sunshine.

My partner, Lynn, can never understand why they are called Purple Sandpipers when they are grey but I think there is a definite pinky/crimson tinge to the wing feathers in a couple of these shots.

E-M1 II, 300mm f4 and MC-14.

Without the strong background shadows your opening shot says it all, Ron.

Re: Sunny Sandpipers

Many thanks for the kind comments and 'likes'. Number one is my favourite too but unfortunately I only got one shot against that backdrop. They were rather active and it was hard to keep track of them amongst the rocks.

All good but with the first one standing out looking at posture and angle of light.

Thanks Andy. Yes it was, although they were slightly north of the point itself, beside the Birds Eye factory. It is funny how they turn up each winter, without fail.

Re: Sunny Sandpipers

wonderful, Ron.

I can see some nice purplish colours amongst the greys. Not a bird I have ever been close too. Well worth the trip out.
