If the E-1....

... is such a wonderful camera to use, then how do the E-3 and E-5 compare?

Re: If the E-1....

I sold my E-1 after getting an E-410. Added an E-3 for the weather sealing, build and viewfinder and am going to add an E-5 in the next month or so. I'll always keep the E-410 and E-3 but never missed the E-1.

I did briefly consider getting another E-1 when a Canadian dealer was clearing out the last of the new ones for 200 but even at that price it wasn't tempting enough.

Re: If the E-1....

I had an E-3 after my E-1.
Sold the E-3. Didn't like the colour rendition in JPEGs.
Purples came out blue, same as with E-510, E-600/620.

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16189

Not had an E-5 but I suspect the same applies.

But... if you need to print VERY large images (I don't), and can adjust in PP, 10MP is better than 5.5.

By the way, both E-PL1 and XZ-1 give very true colour JPEG output.

Re: If the E-1....

I loved the colours from my E1 but I love my E3 more...

Never had the blue/purple thing. I'm in the sign trade so have a sample of blues and a purple, the shots below are straight from the camera JPG, resized using a windows power tool so they haven't even touched photoshop etc..

with flash, the top purple looks a little blue is with onboard flash

Without flash, high ISO but top purple is purple I think?

photography is poor, sorry

Re: If the E-1....

Thank you all...but how do they compare to use? are they as rugged?, are they as 'smooth' to operate? are they as quiet?

Re: If the E-1....

the E3 shutter is a LOT louder, but sounds nice.

My E3 has been everywhere, cold, wet, damp, derelict places and still performs and looks like new, its taken a couple of hits also!!

Do I miss my E1, no, not at all..

I think the E-1 is more rugged than the E-3/5, no pop-up flash for one thing.

I've found the E-3 smoother to operate than the E-1 but that maybe because I was still shooting film when I had the E-1 so never really learnt to use it as smoothly as possible.

Plus as a 30+ years film shooter in a variety of formats I only ever use manual or aperture priority exposure modes so very rarely change settings other than aperture or exposure compensation.

Re: If the E-1....

Well I still have 3 x E-1's and use them ! and I have 1 x E-5 ! I lurve the colours my E-1's give and its a robust bit of kit !

Given good light, the E-5 brings out so much more from the Zuiko & Sigma glass ! but for landscapes - and Portraits anything but Macro - there is little in it between the E-5 and the E-1 both are "Engineered and Quality" imho
