Boys' Toys

Popped out to the airfield today to watch and take pics of the model airplane meeting. Unfortunately none of the bigger models flew while I was there.
Some are capable of reaching speeds of up to 400mph. It was quite a challenge capturing them as they flew by and roared overhead.

Typically, 1/8000 sec @ f/7.1 @ ISO1250 @ 120mm

Love the Warthog, would’ve been good to see that in flight.

Not sure if you can get UK TV live or via catch-up, but it is a coincidence that I found and posted a thread on 'Boy's Toys.'

If interested... UK ITV CH4 Sunday today, and next Sunday week BST 20:00 - 21:00 Battle of Britain.

Unfortunately I am not able to access UK ITV CH4, I sometimes do tune to BBS Radio overnight.

Thanks Wally. Indeed the M5 Mkii surprised me, I hardly expected it to capture this thing
from about 75yds as it streaked low over the tarmac at 200mph plus with burner turbulence left in its wake.

Re: Boys' Toys

Impressive stuff Mark. That's a pretty serious hobby, as others have said I bet it needs deep pockets indeed. Maybe if I show the missus these shots she wont think that next lens is so bad after all

Re: Boys' Toys

I flew some model aircraft in my day but nothing as big or impressive as these.

Re: Boys' Toys

Phill, Mark, OM - thanks for joining the conversation.

You raise a good point, Phill, although I no longer have a missus to authorise my worst excesses.

And Mark, one of these airplanes equipped with a Gopro camera is all I need to master the BIF.

But please, before any of us are tempted to invest in this hobby, just take a look at this :

Re: Boys' Toys

Crikey, I lost it several seconds before it went bang...……

How do they control it???? My little drone is difficult enough and it barely does 15mph downhill...……...

Re: Boys' Toys

I suspect the RC module has inbuilt safety parameters that ensures the plane pulls out of a dive before it hits the ground. They may also have an automatic take off and landing settings.
