The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
This is the XPT, Melbourne to Sydney, that Sandra and I will be catching on Sunday week (23 September).
Hopefully we shall arrive at the station in good time so as not to almost miss it like the young lass in #3. These screenshots are from a 6 minute video clip taken with the M5 Mkii, six key stills says it all! I have never taken videos before; I'm experimenting with the camera's movie mode, it is fun. ![]() The XPT arriving at Wangaratta Station ![]() Conductor checks tickets as passengers board. ![]() She ran down the ramp yelling, WAIT FOR ME! ![]() ![]() The conductor signals, "All Aboard" ![]() ![]() And the XPT is on its way. ![]() We of course will be travelling to Sydney in the opposite direction.

Re: The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
The design is based on the HST aka Intercity 125 which is still running in the UK. They are now being retired from front-line duty between London and the West of England and Wales but some of them are being refurbished for use in Scotland, where they might have another 10 to 20 years of life!
I think the Aussie ones are due to be replaced over the next few years. I am scheduled to travel on one in February.

Re: The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
I still think the HSTs are the most comfortable trains in the UK despite their age!

Re: The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
Steve, enjoy your visit to Oz; be sure to bring or buy a wide brimmed hat, a few pairs of shorts, plenty of t-shirts and a pair of thongs. It's will be hot.
Richard, I can vouch for the comfort of the HST, I've travelled on the XPT to Sydney before (once overnight in a sleeper) and numerous trips down to Melbourne. ![]()

Re: The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
Is that (2006) the year of manufacture on the rear of the train ?

Re: The XPT Melbourne to Sydney
Whilst I travel on it I've no idea as to when it was built, but daresay 2006 is feasible.
