Origami Flower Bud

There is not much scope for pretty pictures here but it may be of interest.

One morning, after the Orbea variegata flower had been open for several days,I found the bud folded as shown here. Was this an overnight arrangement of the final curtain? It was the latter. I have seen many species and varieties of dead flowers over many decades and don't recall any which did not crumple and/or shrivel when dying.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11, hand-held.

The stereos are crosseye.

Harold

Interesting. If I had stumbled across it in the wild I would have thought it was about to burst open, evening primrose-style. I wonder why it does this.

It might be to retain any maggots form eggs laid by blowflies, to further ensure pollination. (I saw none).
