Another Look at "Dolls Eyes" This Time with 400mm Lens

I happened to have my 100-400mm lens on the camera, in search of a strange Darter dragonfly, when I walked past this plant. In the spirit of "why not" I decided to fill the frame at 400mm and even look at stereo potential.

For stereo, in some ways the widest angle lens give the best effect, especially at small aperture, but a cluttered background can be dealt with by using a telephoto lens. The trade-off is between isolating the subject from its background and the decreased stereo effect.

This shows that the stereo effect would be inadequate for normal use. However, when a subject is in the middle distance, and perhaps also camouflaged, a small 3D effect could have a way of showing its shape better.

This is also an opportunity to look at the detail resolved, which is short of a good macro lens but still rather good. (Note spider web).

Olympus EM-1 (Aperture Priority), Panasonic 100 - 400 mm Leica DG Vario-Elmar at 400mm and 1/200 at f11.

Harold
