Some really harsh “real world” use.

Re: Reviews:

A very good review. Shows the new camera is made for very rugged conditions, bit like my TG-5! The big gripped body is ideal for portrait wild life / action photos. And as for washing off under a bottle of water......

Re: Reviews:

First of what will apparently be a series from Scott Bourne, Oly Visionary Wildlife Photographer. He seems convinced of a 0.5 stop signal-to-noise ratio improvement over the 1ii: if that's real and the sensor is indeed the same, then it presumably was achieved through improved internal post-processing.

He wants to compare it with the Sony A9 though. It would seem that as much as might point out advantages of the E-M1X he still wants to sell you (figuratively speaking) the A9.

That was just based on his summery though.

He's one of the most independent of all assessors, in my humble opinion, and he takes his time to try things out properly after he's got conversant with them. He's also a strong advocate of m4/3 sensors as being perfectly good enough for the great majority of users - he uses them in his own work, and regularly says he's never had one of his images criticised for having too few megapixels or too little dynamic range.

The only issue for me is that he's not in any way a wildlife/motorsports/fast sports shooter.

I don't see the problem with comparing against the A9 (except for that camera's greater price...): don't we need a benchmark? It would be nice to see it compared against the D500/D5/1D mkii too.

Surely some potential purchasers will have these cameras in their shortlist, and potentially it may provide some hard data to silence* all those crazy m4/3 trolls on the interwebs?

(*well, to provide some hard data for them to find obscure and self-serving reasons to disregard, perhaps )

Re: Reviews:

Latest review in the March Digital Camera mag gives the Olympus 5* and calls it a best in class product. They show a dynamic range graph that has the Oly beating the competition pretty much all the way up to iso 25600. Overall a very positive review. Seems like quite a Marmite camera.

Re: Reviews:

I've seen two reviews from DPReview which were interesting.

The "E-M1X Review In Progress" says:

Despite this, all settings in the lower part of the table [the functions list] can be assigned to any button in the upper half [of the table].

Normally they are very good at specifying which functions can be assigned to which buttons. Can anyone confirm that all settings can be appiled to all customisable buttons. Are Olympus finally listening to us and will we get this in the E-M5iii?

The second review (from their weekly email) was a video in which the presenter stated that "Olympus did not recommend using a USB-C cable to power the camera during time lapse photography". Surely the whole point of having external power is to power the camera when it will be on for a long time?

I don't know about all settings, but there are many more that can be configured to buttons like the C1-4 custom modes. See page 464 of the manual for a list.
