Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Got a problem with my back-up EM-1 which needs it going back to Olympus for repair. Spent ages carefully describing the details of the problems, as they are intermittent and not easy to accurately describe, on the Olympus repair website site. Then got a "There was an error submitting your request" message. Don't you just love it when that happens?

Stupid me for not saving a copy of the message before hitting the submit button.

Some months ago I needed to send a lens off for repair and found that the final submission failed as well (I was doing this from within myOlympus as it had all the details of me and the registered lens). However after about two months of not getting (I was in no hurry as the fault was intermittant) there it suddenly went through without a problem. I'm not sure they read all of the fault description though and the return note is very lacking in details of the repair and any testing as it just says "repaired". As I listed two problems I don't know if they only fixed one!

The response states that "This error has been logged.". Does that include the message, my details, email address? Probably not as I didn't get any email response from Olympus. So now I need a repair made and can't contact Olympus

Oh the joys of everything on-line! Is there not a phone number to contact a human? If there ain’t then what a crap support ‘offering’.
Have to say, if it was me I’d copy /paste the main text and keep hitting ‘submit’ in the hope that the sheer quantity of failures might come to someone’s attention.

I doubt that individual components are replaced nowadays. With a few exceptions I would expect that the entire circuit board would be replaced, with or without the shutter mechanism. The cost of parts to Olympus vs. repair handling costs would make it prohibitive to seek out an replace individual components even if that was possible. That is how and why they offer a fixed repair cost.

When I had my E1 repaired a while back after dropping it I received an effectively new camera but with my old serial number.

My E1 and E5, so far so good. I bought both from a store; if there's a fault I'll return it to store and let them handle it. I don't buy online anymore as I like abusing sales personnel over the counter!
