London and Tourists (8 images)

On a recent trip up to town I remembered to take a camera! The strong light on the buildings required quite a bit of work to bring out the detail.

Admiralty Arch

Trafalgar Square. I've been meaning to take this one for a long time and finally got around to it.

Some Tourists (who decided not to pose for me but kept on walking)

St James's Palace

By the time I left my meeting it was getting dark and my E-PM2 was struggling.

Pall Mall

St James's Palace (again)

St James's Park

The IMAX Cinema. A lucky shot from the train.

I rather like the one of Pall Mall in the half-light, struggling camera or not.

Re: London and Tourists (8 images)

I love the set Om. It brings back memories of my visit to London a long time ago I guess things have changed a great deal since then. As it's only 5 a.m. I will comment further when I am able to view your images on the laptop. Presently I am only viewing them on my phone I will add to this thread later.

Okay, back on the lappy,7:30am Tuesday in London right now heading for 19'C with scattered showers; almost identical to our weather today.
Admiralty Arch, nice to see it again, what a grand piece of architecture it is.
Trafalgar Square, What does the green traffic signal mean, something to do with gender? Would love to have seen more of the people all in summer kit.
St James Palace, those two guys wearing jackets and big beanies must feel cold?
IMAX Theatre didn't exist, must be new.

Thanks for the tour, OM.

Apparently Mark a new set of symbols was introduced almost two years ago in the Trafalgar Square area - we have visited central London a few times since then but have to admit have not noticed them!

Its possible that I have over emphasised the tone curve a bit to bring out some detail as it looked a lot darker than this in real life. I'm also not sure exactly where it focussed as the buildings on the right hand side are not as sharp as I would have liked although this could just be the camera struggling. But I like the shot and glad that you approve.

Thanks Mark. The IMAX cinema at the eastern end of waterloo bridge (i.e. south of the river) opened in 1999. It seats 489, has a screen measuring over 20m high by 26m wide and can show 3d movies. Annie has given a good account of the new pedestrian symbols.

There are more than one of these around trafalgar square but I did not have time to find and photograph them all. There was a small delegation leaving Downing Street and coming along Whitehall so all the traffic had to be stopped at Trafalgar Square for them to progress without hinderance leading to some anglo saxon comments from some people.

Re: London and Tourists (8 images)

But confronted with that symbol I can't say that I'd be any the wiser. As another London visit isn't on the cards, I'm unlikely to be confronted with that situation.
