Mono in the morning

Here are a ccouple of shots I took yesterday morning. I went to Buttermere which was lovely and still but things did not happen how I wanted so I took some other shots.

This was taken on the way home as round Rannerdale knot at Crummock as I got out the car the stillness of the lake broke. I hung around and I shot this.

Before leaving Buttermere I decided to see how much ice was still on sour milk gill. I was pleaseently surprised by how much there was and took some detail shots of which this got procesesed

What do you think?

Re: Mono in the morning

Love the frozen "bubbles" effect on the waterfall - it's both a fascinating natural phenomenon and a very nice photo that captures the mood well.

The Crummock Water shot doesn't quite work so well for me - can't quite put my finger on it but perhaps it's the feeling that something is missing on the right - allows the eye to float out of frame. Also the line of symmetry is so close to the half-way point but not quite - had it been exactly on half-way or further away from it it might have avoided the feeling of "not quite right".

Not everyone's cup of tea but you could make an interesting image by mirroring it:

Re: Mono in the morning

I love the first one Alf - the solitary tree really makes the shot.

Re: Mono in the morning

I really like both shots. The difficulty I find with the first is the conflict I have in my brain between the reflection of the tree and what's going on underwater. Maybe crop some of the underwater stones out ? Or ... tell my small brain what I should be concentrating both my cells on :-)
